Dirt Eating
Mom reflection.
My son is a year and a half old. When my daughter was his age she loved to play and dig in the dirt. She’d get some in her mouth now and again but didn’t enjoy it. Of course I kept an eye on her when outside, but it could be peripheral vision type of monitoring. My son eats dirt. What’s confusing for me is you can tell he doesn’t like it - big blow up every time he puts some in his mouth, tears, throwing whatever toy he may be playing with, but then he does it again, and again, and again. I feel my vigilance when he is outdoors needs to parallel that when you’re watching a magic trick and you’re trying to figure out the secret of the trick. Obviously you can’t maintain that type of monitoring especially when you are trying to get anything but child watching done like, say, water plants. So, let’s just say, he’s probably consumed a good amount of natural material. Let’s just hope his dirt eating perseverance translates into trying new foods however unlikely that may be.
