6-12 Month Stuff

Ok, my pediatrician told me we could start purees at 6 months. Boy was I excited. Now, let’s establish some expectations. My babies, maybe only mine, were not really into the concept of eating and swallowing at 6 month. I was ready for it…they were not. Fast forward to 9 months. They were both ready to inhale whatever they deemed appropriate to put in their mouths and then quickly transition from happily eating to making a giant mess. All over the kitchen. All over themselves. All over me. How wonderful. Isn’t this fun?

Anyway…to contain the while mess making machines I got an under the highchair (we used an Inglesina screw on the countertop variety) collection system which has saved my mental sanity COUNTLESS times. NOTE the one below is listed to be used under a highchair, but believe me with the right sticky velcro strips can be installed under a counter! I did it, and it worked beautifully. Yes, sometimes I don’t clean it after every meal, and the contents start auto-composting. Yes, sometimes my toddler will eat morsels from the morsel collected from the dinner the night before from. Yes, I am not the perfect mother. Yes, I will continue telling myself this is enhancing their cut microbiota. Anyway, I like this thing, especially in a household without a dog. AND if you dump it out and wipe it down with some countertop spray and a paper towel its a pretty quick clean up. Now, even after my son graduating from the Inglesina chair into a kitchen stool (G**&^Yd help me) I have held onto this highchair catch-all system for who knows what because it is so close to my heart - indoor art projects (what am I thinking?!)….
