6-12 Month Old Shakers

My son loved to shake things that made noise. Rattles were ok, but he liked different sounds, so I figured out I could ask our local pharmacy for some empty pill bottles (safety lids) and fill them with little things with different weights and sizes (say one with rice, one with dried beans, one with tooth picks). They’d make an array of sounds. My son loved this. I would bring a 2 different ones in the care with us and he’d be entertained for 5 minutes, which is pretty good for us.

When he was a little older (15 months ish) we flew across the country. After that trip I vowed to take at least 6 months off of traveling, but the one activity that kept him the most busy and content was a spice jar (I used a plastic one) with the shake lid and 20ish Q tips. He put the Q tips into those little holes again and again and again, It was the only thing that gave me some reprieve. And talk about easy. Granted, by the 50th time the Q tips are a little frazzled and people may be questioning whether they’ve be used in actual ears, but for a few minutes of peace very worth the fellow plane travelers’ judgement.
